Review for Tris & Izzie by Mette Ivie Harrison

Title: Tris & Izzie

Author: Mette Ivie Harrison

Publisher: Egmont

Publication: October 11, 2011

Synopsis: A modern retelling of the German fairytale "Tristan and Isolde", Tris and Izzie is about a young witch named Izzie who is dating Mark King, the captain of the basketball team and thinks her life is going swimmingly well. Until -- she makes a love potion for her best friend Brangane and then ends up taking it herself accidentally, and falling in love with Tristan, the new guy at school.

Verdict: I really think this story had a great beginning. It really did, but after that it kind of took a turn for the worst. The idea behind the book was great! The execution, not so much. I really wanted to love this book. Izzie, was an okay character, but there were certain things she did that really made me want to slap her! For instance, there was one part when her ex-boyfriend, Mark, actually punched her (don't get me wrong- he had every reason to do it, but the bottom line is you don't hit girls) and she acted like it was no big deal and completely forgave him!!! Then when her boyfriend, Tris, tried to punch Mark back, she jumped on his back and was telling him to not hurt him! WTF!?!? There were certain parts that I really liked! For instance at the end (SPOILER)[I thought it was cool how the answer to defeating the evil serpent was actually in the past- in his memories!](END OF SPOILER). And I think the two couples were cute: Tris & Izzie and Mark & Branna. But that was kind of it for me. Mette Ivie Harrison had something amazing going at start of this novel and with more development she could of turned this whole story around into something amazing. But as it stands today my official rating is..........

An ARC was provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
