Review for Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Title: Every Other Day

Author: Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Publisher: EgmontUSA

Publication Date: December 27, 2011

Synopsis: Every other day, Kali D'Angelo is a normal sixteen-year-old girl. She goes to public high school. She attends pep rallies. She's human. And then every day in between . . .She's something else entirely. Though she still looks like herself, every twenty-four hours predatory instincts take over and Kali becomes a feared demon-hunter with the undeniable urge to hunt, trap, and kill zombies, hellhounds, and other supernatural creatures. Kali has no idea why she is the way she is, but she gives in to instinct anyway. Even though the government considers it environmental terrorism. When Kali notices a mark on the lower back of a popular girl at school, she knows instantly that the girl is marked for death by one of these creatures. Kali has twenty-four hours to save her and, unfortunately, she'll have to do it as a human. With the help of a few new friends, Kali takes a risk that her human body might not survive. . .and learns the secrets of her mysterious condition in the process.

Verdict: I think that this book was awesome; I've never read anything like it! The content was truly unique and Jennifer Lyn Barnes obviously had a strike of pure literary genius when writing Every Other Day, because it was fantastic! The main character Kali was awesome! I don't want to give anything away but I think she was a very unique character. Then there was Skylar who was also very full of awesome and someone you could easily imagine becoming your best friend (I personally considered her one of my favorite characters which was why later events in the book made my very, very sad)! And last but now least there was Bethany, who was the type of person who acts like they don't care when all the while they are caring very deeply. Together, this trio goes on quite an adventure. This book has everything; there was fighting, a tiny bit of romance, deep friendship, scary mythical creatures, and tear-filled moments. I loved every page and zipped through this book in two days, while losing precious hours of sleep in the process. But it was well worth it. I can only hope that there is a sequel to this book because I will be very heart-broken if I don't get to read more about Kali and Zev and the other little mysterious that popped up at the end. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves action-packed reads with kick-butt heroines and spunky best friends (aka sidekicks!) <3
