Book Spotlight: Gates of Thread and Stone by Lori M. Lee (Author Interview)

Title: Gates of Thread and Stone
Author: Lori M. Lee
Series: Gates of Thread and Stone, #1
Publisher: Skyscape
Publication Date: August 5, 2014

Synopsis: In the Labyrinth, we had a saying: keep silent, keep still, keep safe.

In a city of walls and secrets, where only one man is supposed to possess magic, seventeen-year-old Kai struggles to keep hidden her own secret—she can manipulate the threads of time. When Kai was eight, she was found by Reev on the riverbank, and her “brother” has taken care of her ever since. Kai doesn’t know where her ability comes from—or where she came from. All that matters is that she and Reev stay together, and maybe one day move out of the freight container they call home, away from the metal walls of the Labyrinth. Kai’s only friend is Avan, the shopkeeper’s son with the scandalous reputation that both frightens and intrigues her.

Then Reev disappears. When keeping silent and safe means losing him forever, Kai vows to do whatever it takes to find him. She will leave the only home she’s ever known and risk getting caught up in a revolution centuries in the making. But to save Reev, Kai must unravel the threads of her past and face shocking truths about her brother, her friendship with Avan, and her unique power.

About the Author: Lori is an avid writer, reader, artist, and lover of unicorns. She should probably spend less time on the internet (but she won't). She has a borderline obsessive fascination with unicorns, is fond of talking in capslock, and loves to write about magic, manipulation, and family. She lives in Wisconsin with her husband, kids, and a friendly pitbull.

Author Interview:

First off, I'd like to thank you for joining me on the blog today!
Thanks so much for having me! :)

1. Describe Gates of Thread and Stone as a tweet (140 characters or less)!
A girl who can control the threads of time must join a rebellion to save her brother and find answers about her mysterious past.

2. If you could re-title Gates of Thread and Stone what would you call it and why?
It was originally called Harbinger, and I still have a soft spot for that title. It refers to specific characters Kai meets in the book.

3. What inspired you to start writing?
The after school writing program in third grade. We made our own books. It was amazing. The exhilaration of holding a book I created has never faded.

4. What kind of research, if any, did you do for Gates of Thread and Stone?
I did quite a bit of research on certain science fiction elements before those elements were edited out of the book haha. I also researched various historical representations of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse.

5. Do you have a specific place where you write?
My kitchen table or my spare room. The kitchen table is just more convenient during the day when my son is running around my feet lol.

6. What are you reading right now?
I just received an ARC of DISSONANCE by Erica O’Rourke in the mail. I’m so freaking excited to read it! I LOOOOVED her Torn Trilogy.

This or That...

Ebook or Real book?
Real book. I love having all the pretties on my book shelf.

Twitter or Facebook?
Twitter.

Chocolate or Vanilla?
Vanilla.

Past or Future?
Future.

And just for fun- What is the strangest thing on your desk right now?
A brocade royal blue and silver Chinese cap with an attached fake braid. My husband bought it years and years ago at some specialty store.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog!

-Kristen ♥
